I frequently get these errors with elderly MNREGA and pension customers:
- Error -720: "Finger not placed properly"
- Error -730: "Poor quality / dry skin"
Their fingerprint ridges are faded. What are the best methods to capture difficult fingerprints reliably?
How often do you clean your fingerprint sensor to maintain capture quality?

For senior citizens and manual laborers with faded ridges:
Physical preparation:
- Keep a wet sponge or damp paper towel at your desk. A small drop of moisturizer or glycerin dramatically improves ridge contact on the optical prism.
- Clean the Mantra glass prism gently with an optical microfiber cloth + isopropyl alcohol to remove dried oil and sweat residue.
Software adjustment:
- In your application settings or
mfs100.ini, lower the minimum quality threshold:
(Default is 60; reducing to 50 helps elderly customers.)[Settings] MinQuality=50
If fingerprints consistently fail after 3–4 attempts, do not keep forcing capture — NPCI may trigger a biometric lock on the customer's Aadhaar.
Recommend switching to Iris authentication:
- Device: Mantra MIS100V2 or compatible Iris scanner
- Iris authentication has a 99.2% first-attempt success rate for elderly villagers
- Works regardless of fingerprint wear from farming or construction work
Position the scanner 10–15 cm from the customer's eyes in indoor shaded light (avoid direct sunlight) for best results.
